Registration Policy
Sugar 'n' Spice offers programs for children ages 2 1/2 to 5 years old. In order to qualify for a program a child must reach the required age by October 1st.

Children enrolled in our center must be toilet trained. Please dress your child in clothes that are easy to take on and off. We are aware that the occassional accident will occur, so please send in a complete change of clothes with your child and review the clothes as the seasons change. Socks, underwear, pants, shirts, etc. should be stored in a clear zip-loc bag and labeled with your child's name. Please keep this in the front compartment of your child's back pack. "Accidents" will be dealt with calmly, sympathetically and in a way which does not make the child feel they have done anything wrong. If a child has one or more toilet accidents a week for more than four weeks, we may deem him unready for school and ask that he withdraw from our program.

Discipline Policy
Our positive discipline approach takes into account and respects the rights of the individual child, the group, and the teacher. Positive discipline is a process of teaching children to behave appropriately. Children are apprised of the school's behavioral expectations and are reminded of them when necessary. The teacher may at times have to intervene and redirect an activity to change the focus of a child's negative behavior or provide a quiet corner where a child may regain self-control. This approach to discipline is accomplished at all times with care and concern for the child and the welfare of the class.

Medical Policy
A completed medical form is due before the first day of school. Do not send your child to school if he/she has the following symptoms:

  • A fever
  • Stomach ache
  • Unusual rash
  • Diarrhea
  • A bad cough or a cold with messy runny nose
  • An earache
  • Vomiting before school
  • A communicable disease
The following communicable diseases must be reported to the school:
  • Chicken Pox
  • Measles
  • Flu
  • Strep Throat
  • Impetigo
  • Lice
  • Scabies

Children with any of the above contagious diseases may not return to school until they are symptom free and a doctor indicates in writing that they no longer pose a health risk to themselves or others. Parents will be advised if we suspect that their children have been exposed to a communicable disease.
The school will not administer medication except in cases of emergency allergic reactions. Medication must be prescribed by a doctor and written permission and instructions must be provided by the parent.

Release Policy
The school will not release a child to anyone other than those authorized in writing by the custodial parent(s). Children will not be released to anyone who, in the opinion of the staff, is emotionally or physically impaired and will place the child at risk if released to them.

Parent Involvement Policy
A parent bulletin is issued monthly to keep parents informed of upcoming activities. At the beginning of the school year a special "parent's night" is held for parents and staff for the purpose of sharing goals, recommendations, and concerns. Two parent teacher conferences are scheduled annually and additional ones are scheduled as deemed necessary. Open house is held in conjuction with the fall conferences. All parents are encouraged to take an active part in their child's preschool experiences by sharing their special hobbies, interests, or job experiences.
